A College Thanksgiving!

I’ve been so busy lately and I’ve had this post in queue for a week now! So I figured I’d just share it as is. 🙂 Enjoy! Let’s rewind to about 1 week ago, shall we!

I can’t believe it’s already Thanksgiving again! Although Thanksgiving isn’t my very favorite holiday, it’s still really special to me because it’s what really kicks off the holiday season in my family.  Thanksgiving in my family means KOST 103.5’s Month Long of Christmas Songs, ham, duck, rice, and other foods us Asians like to eat for festive holidays. But it also usually means lots and lots of time to bond with the family, play boardgames, and to enjoy each others’ company.

Thanksgiving

This year, however, my parents spent Thanksgiving in Hong Kong where my dad’s side of the family all live at. I was so bummed at first that I couldn’t go with my parents there because I couldn’t miss school, but I was still able to spend my Thanksgiving with family…my college one! My closest college friends (which are friends I went to high school with + my amazing roommate) planned a big Thanksgiving potluck with 15 of our closest friends. We all brought our favorite Thanksgiving dish and the turn out was pretty great! (We had sooo many leftovers.) And even though the turkey came out half cooked (cooked by the guys…) and everything ran behind schedule, we still all had a very fun time just enjoying each others’ company.

Smore Cupcakes

My roommate made these amazing S’more Cupcakes. Toasted marshmallows, graham cracker crusts, just simply delicious!

Thanksgiving StuffingWhat’s Thanksgiving without stuffing?

Thanksgiving Mashed PotatoesAnd an overload of mashed potatoes…

Thanksgiving Gravy

Thanksgiving HamAnd the guys’ Hawaiian ham….

Thanksgiving Golden RetrieverAnd…the cutest dog ever of course!!

ThanksgivingAnd then we started taking pictures on the staircase…we don’t know why but we liked how they came out!

ThanksgivingAnd then Arya joined us…tehehe!

I hope all of you enjoyed your Thanksgivings! I sure did. 🙂 Don’t forget to follow me on twitter & pinterest for more updates from my posts! 🙂 How did you guys spend your Thanksgiving!

First of all, the biggest thank you to the Veterans of our country for your service and devotion to our country~

This weekend’s been such a great one! I was able to spend quality with with my best friend, (and boyfriend!) David! And to top everything off, there’s still 1 more day to this great 3-day weekend. We worked on some assignments due for our classes this week, ate a yummy gourmet Taiwanese burger, and watched Wreck it Ralph! Oh my goooodnesss, Wreck it Ralph was suuuuch a great movie! I’d definitely take a nice break during the week to catch the film if you haven’t already done so!

We also took a night time stroll back to our empty high school where we admired all the changes made since our graduation dates. So nostalgic<3 And lastly, since I don’t really anything else to share about, here’s a picture of Dinner Du Jour~

Dinner

Mixed Greens with Avocado in a Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing topped with Crumbled Bleu Cheese and a cup of my favorite Naked Juice — Green Machine!

Yum!

Weekend Outings: Ton Ten Ko Japanese Grill for My Cousin Visiting LA!

On Friday, one of my cousins from Toronto came and visited my family and relatives on her way to Hong Kong! It was such a pleasant surprise and there was so much we wanted to do with her in her short 3 day stay. From KTV’ing all day, to playing ping pong all night, from cupcakes to macarons, I just wanted to share what we managed to do in these short 3 days! I’ll be splitting up my posts for the 3 days, so here’s Day 1!

Day 1:
One of the first things we did on Friday was to quench our asian-selves with boba from Tea Station! And then we headed over to one of my auntie’s house to sing some KTV while we waited for dinner time at Ton Ten Ko!

KTV

Lots of singing, laughing, and laughing at others singing happened 🙂

Chapchae

Dinner time at Ton Ten Ko! Started off with some chapchae, glassnoodles, pickled radishes, and spicy pickled cucumbers.

Sashimi Plate

My family’s really big on seafood and so this was a must-eat! My favorite was still the salmon, mmm.

Uni Sushi

Wasn’t able to snap a picture fast enough while the half-ring of uni sushi was still a ring. (These went by quick!) To much of our disappointment though, their uni here had a sea-watery taste, making it slightly bitter. It was fresh, but it didn’t have that savory sweet taste that you’d expect to get for paying $8+ for two pieces.

Uni Bowl

This was the “Jaw Dropper” of the night. For only $12, you get an uni bowl, lined with uni, stuffed with rice, masago, bell peppers, and green onions. My auntie loved it, and the uni from this had a much more sweet and yummy taste.

Tempura Ice Cream

And you can never end family dinner gatherings without dessert! This time we had Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream! It was fried to perfection and was a great ~900 additional calories on top of my dinner splurge..

We finished the rest of the night with more KTV and family photos! Day 2 and 3 will be posted on later! For now I’m going to treat myself to some relaxing time as I get ready for another week of work, work, and work. Thanks for reading my long blurb of my weekend and I hope you all have a great week 🙂 & make sure to go to my contact page if there’s a place you’d like me to try!
