Dreamy Treats: Bardot Bars!

I was shopping with my boyfriend over the weekend at the Santa Anita Westfield Mall when we came across La Jolla’s Famous Bardot Bars! My mom has been raving about this fancy ice cream bar shop ever since her visit to La Jolla and I was so surprised to come across this at one of our local malls!

Bardot Ice Cream

One of the first things that drew my attention to Bardot was its stylish modern-eclectic decor. Not only were the bars fancy, the decor was too! I was very very impressed.

Bardot Ice Cream

View of their counter and the center island where the bars are kept refrigerated.

Bardot Ice Cream

Their signature icon tiled as ceiling decor.

Tables and chairs to enjoy your ice cream treats!

Bardot Ice Cream

Located at the corner by the Nordstrom, Bardot’s lively decor and colors really attract lots of passerby’s attention, like mine!

Bardot Ice Cream

Their signature ice cream bars with so many delicious flavors! I really wanted to try the mango!

Bardot Ice Cream

But my boyfriend and I got “Honey I’m Home” instead. ๐Ÿ™‚ He thought the name was really cute and couldn’t resist getting it for me :)! We ended up only getting one because each bar was a whopping $5.80 and we decided to try the other flavors next time!

Bardot Ice Cream

The center was filled with a delicious Cookies & Cream Ice Cream and dipped in a 60% Dark Belgium Chocolate topped with an original Oreo cookie sprinkled with edible glitter. Super yummy!

Bardot Ice Cream

They also served their signature gelato flavors you would find in their Bardot Bars! It’s $4.60 a scoop, pricy, but if you’re feeling luxurious and have a few extra bucks to spend, I’d definitely try some of these flavors!

Bardot Ice Cream

Their Photo Booth wasn’t completed yet, but one of the helpful staff told us it’d be ready in a couple of weeks. I’m really excited for the photo-op in this cute little room!

So that was my little weekend treat that I wanted to share with you all! ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you’ll all find the nearest Bardot to you to go try! Here are the locations ๐Ÿ™‚ And don’t forget to check out my other Dreamy Eats & Treats posts where you’ll find other yummy snacks I like to treat myself to! You can also comment below, or email me at felicia.allthingsdreamy@gmail.com where you can let me know what you think of Bardot or any other places you’d like me to visit and review! Have a great night ๐Ÿ™‚

Birchbox: My First Birchbox for August ’12!

Soooooo after waiting 4 weeks for my subscription information…and another 17 days for everything to be processed and shipped out…my first Birchbox is finally here! I was checking the shipping status all day at work and quickly rushed to my mailbox as soon as I got home, so eager to open it to see what goodies I got in my box! Birchbox is basically a subscription service that sends monthly samples of low – high end brands in a cute box. It’ll typically include 5-6 beauty products and 1 lifestyle product. The products will vary every month, and they have a promise to never re-send you the same sample. Basically, it’s a hit or a miss. You’ll either score some really good samples of full sized products, or even great sample sized ones, or you’ll basically be left with a box of stuff you don’t intend on using — a miss.

August Birchbox

So when I was anticipating my box, I had a lot time to search and look through other blogs to see what I’d possibly get for my ‘Welcome Box’. I was pretty excited to the see the item-lineup on the site, when they had announced a sneak-peak at the products they were going to include in the sets of 30+ Birchboxes. I was really looking forward to the Shick Hydro Razor that was the lifestyle product intended for August, the Pixi Beauty Products, and other eye – mascara, liner products. For me, this box was a miss.ย  I know it’s my first box and all, but I’ll go into my detail below on what I’ll categorize my Birchboxes as a ‘miss.’

August Birchbox

This month, Birchbox teamed up with Pencils of Promise, an organization that helps raise awareness as well as money to build schools for high-need countries and communities such as Laos, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. Through 8/31, Birchbox is donating 15% of all proceeds from the Birchbox Shop to this organization. This is probably one of the things I loved most about this box–that they were giving back to the community.

August Birchbox

This months’ Birchbox theme was Beauty School, a beauty themed box for back to school month. On the back were descriptions of the “Supply Kit” – what each of my items were and what to use them for.

August Birchbox

In each box, there’s one “wow” item, and for my Welcome Box, this DDF Brightening Cleanser was it. The full size 250ml retails for $38, and my sample size was a pretty big 133ml, more than half of the full sized product. Still, I’m not quick to use skincare items that aren’t acne-prevention because my skin is so sensitive and prone to breakouts. It’s too bad Birchbox only lets you add your Profile after you’ve ordered the first box; I feel I would have gotten products more fitting to my lifestyle/skin’s needs. So this cleanser, will probably be my emergency-go-to.

August Birchbox

My second product, LiQWd’s Professional Volumizing Catalyst, descriptions on my little card say “Equipped with high-tech moisturizers, this weightless mist adds serious body to flat locks.” Unfortunately, another item I won’t be using much other than the rare occasions when my straight straight hair has been curled/needs to be curled.

August Birchbox

This is probably the item I’m most excited to use! Dr. Jart +‘s Waterfuse BB Cream – “This four-in-one moisturizer, serum, sunscreen, and skin-perfecting tint is the beauty version of a Swiss Army Knife.” I’ve been searching for a really good BB Cream for my skin (even though they’re basically non-existent) and I’m hoping I’ll really like this. However, all the other bloggers/reviewers said there is so little product contained in this little jar, there wasn’t enough to be used during one full application. I’m hoping I lucked out of that!

August Birchbox

My fourth beauty item, Juicy Couture’s Viva la Juicy La Fleur. I’m an in-between for Juicy fragrances, I’ll really like some of them, and others not so much. This scent is one of my more favorable ones. The description saysย  it’s a “feminine blend of wild berries, mandarin, and waterlily.”

August Birchbox

And finally, my ‘Lifestyle Extra’ of the month, a Larabar uber. I’m so so so disappointed that I got this. I wanted the Schick Razor instead of this so badly. This was so tiny that I was literally able to finish the entire bar in 2 bites. It was really soft, chewy, and full of nuts and fruits, but still, I would never return and buy a pack of 5 of these for $9.00.

So how I’m determining whether each of my Birchboxes is a ‘Hit’ or a ‘Miss’ is by theย  # of things I’ll put to use / # of things I won’t be using. This month, I was really only interested in 2/5 products, so I’m considering my Welcome Box, a ‘Miss.’ I was definitely anticipating so much more but it’s all good. I’ll give my subscription a few more months to determine whether or not I want to unsubscribe. I’d like to at least have a few “Hits” before then though!

Sorry for being so critical in this post! I just really wanted to get my thoughts out on this new curated make-up samples craze. But feel free to let me know if you’re having more luck on an alternate monthly curated makeup box samples subscription! I’d love to try new subscriptions to enjoy and to share with you all! Oh and for all those that have started/are starting school, have a wonderful school year!<3

Weekend Outings: Day 3 – Newport Beach! Brunch at The Rusty Pelican & Sprinkles Cupcakes!

I’ve been so busy these past couple of days with work and spending quality time with my friends, family, and boyfriend! But as promised, here’s Day 3 of my Cousin’s Visit to LA, one of the most fun weekends I’ve had in such a long time!

Rusty Pelican Brunch

We started off the beautiful sunny day with brunch at The Rusty Pelican in Newport Beach! We had reservations on OpenTable.com so we were able to be seated as soon as everyone arrived! The decor inside was a really transitional-rustic-nautical-themed that made the place fancy, but cozy. There were large windows by the seating areas to see the gorgeous view of small and large boats parked right next to the restaurant on the dock! We were given the large table seating area because we had a reservation for 12. Here’s the delicious brunch we had!

Rusty Pelican

Such a beautiful modern chandelier to welcome the restaurant’s guests in the lobby area.

Rusty Pelican Menu

The menu for brunch! If you order under the Brunch Specials or Fresh Fish Selection, you get a free glass of champagne with your meal!

Rusty Pelican Brunch

Under parental consent, I was able to enjoy this glass of sweet champagne!

Rusty Pelican Brunch

1 dozen chilled raw oysters on the half shell! These were the ‘Jaw-Droppers’ of the meal! So fresh, perfectly sweet, and absolutely delicious! They were recommended by our super nice server and we were definitely impressed. I normally don’t like eating oysters much because of the sea-watery taste, but these were definitely amazing!

Rusty Pelican Brunch

Here’s my main course, their Halibut Special of the Day! The cream sauce was to-die-for, it complemented the fish perfectly, adding a lemon zest to the seasoned-and-put-on-the-grill halibut. The fingerling potatoes were cooked to perfection, neither too mushy nor too hard. My only disappointment was that the fish was slightly overcooked. Which is understandable because they had to serve 12 of our table’s dishes at the same time. But the sauce definitely made up for what the fish was lacking!

Rusty Pelican Brunch

My little cousin was slightly disappointed in her plate of Salmon too. It was also overcooked. But she loved the spinach that was perfectly seasoned on top of it!

Rusty Pelican Brunch

Sorry for the out of focus photo, but this was my cousin’s Fresh Ahi Sashimi! She was very very happy.

Rusty Pelican Brunch

Dessert on the house! The amazing waitress we had over heard us talking about the fish being overcooked at the end of our meal and offered us any free dessert of our choice! She recommended the Dessert Trio that had their signature Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Torte, and Banana Bread Pudding (worth $10.95)! Let me tell you, these were amazing! My favorite was the banana bread pudding because of the bed of cream sauce it was resting on top of. It was the perfect amount of sweetness while the other two were slightly on the sweeter side. Who can complain about a free dessert though!

Newport Beach

Here’s one of the few pictures I captured while actually on the beach. I was so worried about sand getting into my camera that I basically hid it in my case and under the little patio we set up to avoid it from being damaged. I don’t know who this is, but she made for a lovely model! If you’re reading this, and this is you, thanks for this photo op!

Sprinkles Cupcakes

And no Newport Beach trip is complete without satisfying my endless-Sprinkles Cupcakes craving!

Sprinkles Cupcakes

I was so excited I finally hit the Chai Latte day and was able to try it! And I was double happy that they brought back the Blake Lively S’more Cupcake! The Chai Latte was really delicious, sort of like a mild vanilla cake with hints and remnants of chai tea. The frosting was also really mild, which was great! I was very very happy with it. My boyfriend shared the S’more cupcake with me and loved it as well–mainly for the piece of dark chocolate and marshmallow stuffing in the middle, but he was still happy which makes me happy that he can enjoy having cupcakes with me too!

So that’s the last of my 3 days filled with eating, eating, and eating! I can’t wait for the next time my cousin comes to visit again; we’ll be sure to hit up more of our favorite places in SoCal and post about it! For now, it’s time for me to get ready for another day of work! I hope you enjoyed this post and I’d really love to know what you think! Comments make me happy ๐Ÿ™‚ Goodnight!

Warmest Regards,

Felicia<3

Weekend Outings: Cousin’s Visit Day 2 – Downtown Brea!

Hello! And happy Monday to you all! I hope you all survived through your Monday without over-dosing on coffee like I did!

Since I split up the post for my weekend, I’m sharing Day 2 of my cousin’s visit to LA!

Merely Sweets Cupcakes

My cousin knows how completely obsessed I am with cupcakes, even from Toronto, because she follows my Instagram where I’m always posting pictures of the different cupcake places I’m trying. She was thrilled when I told her that Merely Sweets was closeby! After missing the same exit twice, we finally got to Brea Blvd. and Birch St., Brea’s Downtown District! We only had a couple hours to spend there because we had to rush back for dinner, but here’s the what we ate and what we were able to do in the short amount of time!

Merely Sweets Macarons
My cousin loved the gorgeous decor in various areas of the little bakery. Here’s their tiered Macaron Cake!

Merely Sweets Cupcakes

Nutella Cupcakes!

Merely Sweets Cupcakes Strawberry & Vanilla

Strawberry & Vanilla Cupcakes!

Merely Sweets Macarons

My cousin loved their macarons too! Her favorite was the Matcha Green Tea, perfectly baked crunchy cookie oozing with semi-sweet green tea ganache.

Merely Sweets Cupcakes

Our cupcakes! My cousins’ Strawberry and Nutella, and my Red Velvet!

Starbucks Menu

Then we headed to Starbucks for some drinks to wash all those yummy sweets down.

Bath & Body Works

Shopping for gifts to bring back home to Hong Kong at Bath & Body Works in Downtown Brea!

We really enjoyed ourselves in this little district and we wish we had had more time there. But we were sure to take lots of pictures everywhere we went to remind ourselves of these short-lived memories!

What’s your favorite thing to do in Downtown Brea? I’d love to know! And don’t forget to follow me on Pinterest, where you’ll see lots more of my favorite dreamy things!

Weekend Outings: Ton Ten Ko Japanese Grill for My Cousin Visiting LA!

On Friday, one of my cousins from Toronto came and visited my family and relatives on her way to Hong Kong! It was such a pleasant surprise and there was so much we wanted to do with her in her short 3 day stay. From KTV’ing all day, to playing ping pong all night, from cupcakes to macarons, I just wanted to share what we managed to do in these short 3 days! I’ll be splitting up my posts for the 3 days, so here’s Day 1!

Day 1:
One of the first things we did on Friday was to quench our asian-selves with boba from Tea Station! And then we headed over to one of my auntie’s house to sing some KTV while we waited for dinner time at Ton Ten Ko!

KTV

Lots of singing, laughing, and laughing at others singing happened ๐Ÿ™‚

Chapchae

Dinner time at Ton Ten Ko! Started off with some chapchae, glassnoodles, pickled radishes, and spicy pickled cucumbers.

Sashimi Plate

My family’s really big on seafood and so this was a must-eat! My favorite was still the salmon, mmm.

Uni Sushi

Wasn’t able to snap a picture fast enough while the half-ring of uni sushi was still a ring. (These went by quick!) To much of our disappointment though, their uni here had a sea-watery taste, making it slightly bitter. It was fresh, but it didn’t have that savory sweet taste that you’d expect to get for paying $8+ for two pieces.

Uni Bowl

This was the “Jaw Dropper” of the night. For only $12, you get an uni bowl, lined with uni, stuffed with rice, masago, bell peppers, and green onions. My auntie loved it, and the uni from this had a much more sweet and yummy taste.

Tempura Ice Cream

And you can never end family dinner gatherings without dessert! This time we had Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream! It was fried to perfection and was a great ~900 additional calories on top of my dinner splurge..

We finished the rest of the night with more KTV and family photos! Day 2 and 3 will be posted on later! For now I’m going to treat myself to some relaxing time as I get ready for another week of work, work, and work. Thanks for reading my long blurb of my weekend and I hope you all have a great week ๐Ÿ™‚ & make sure to go to my contact page if there’s a place you’d like me to try!

Dreamy Eats: Merely Sweets Macarons

If you’re keeping up with the latest trends, you’ll know yummy food is the new obsession! Everyone’s raving about hole-in-the-wall restaurants, exotic food, and expensive little treats, or as I like to call it, “Princess Food.” Anyone that knows me knows that I’m just as obsessed with macarons as I am with cupcakes and I’m sometimes willing to drive as far as 50 miles to satisfy that cupcake or macaron craving (true story of two girls at 2am desperate for a Sprinkles Cupcakes cupcake). And after hearing all the buzz of a hyped-up macaron shop in the OC and receiving my first paycheck of the month, I was ready to splurge at Merely Sweets! Nesting itself in the heart of Downtown Brea, this little cupcake and macaron shop is now my quick go-to-fix for satisfying both my Sprinkles Cupcakes and ‘lette Macarons cravings at once! Its cute and chic modern layout inside really brings out the vibrant colors of their colorful macarons and their perfectly frosted cupcakes. Having been craving these crunchy little treats for a couple weeks now, here’s how I briefly cured my macaron desire.

Merely Sweets Macarons

Treated myself to a dozen of these little sweet treats!

The prices for their macarons are $1.65 each, but $18.50 for a dozen, compared to ‘lette’s $1.70/$19.50. But Merely Sweets’ macarons are bigger, but flatter, while ‘lettes cookie shells are thicker, but smaller. Having family over that night, I decided to just splurge and get the dozen. This was my opportunity to try flavors I’ve never tried before!

Merely Sweets Macarons

What survived through our family’s macaron frenzy upon sight of the box.

From left to right, Salted Caramel, Vanilla, Pistachio, Raspberry, and yummy Green Tea!

Merely Sweets Macarons

The pretty little “rainbow-krabby-patties” (as my friends call it) posing for a picture before being eaten!

Merely Sweets Macarons

With the Green Tea!

Merely Sweets Macarons

Vanilla, really rich with a creamy-thick texture.

Vanilla was one of my favorites of the batch. Not only is it a beautiful turquoise blue that already made it one of my favs, the flavor wasn’t so overpowering that it left my mouth resonating with a sugary taste.

Merely Sweets Macarons

Pistachio, pleasant bold taste of pistachios with just the right amount of sweetness.

I was pleasantly surprised with the Pistachio flavor. I was always uncertain to try it because I was worried it’d look more pretty with the others in the box than it tasted yummy. But I was definitely proved wrong with this as it turned out to be my favorite out of all the ones pictured in this post. I really loved the little teeny bits of pistachio nut you could taste in the nutty-creamy filling and the sweetness factor was just right!

That was my first little amateur review of a food place so yay! I hope to be posting more of these soon! Follow me on Instagram to see daily posts of all the places I visit! And don’t forget to email me at felicia.allthingsdreamy@gmail.com if there’s a place you want me to check out and blog about!

Summer Nights: 18 Mile Bike Trip!

Last night my friends from high school and I went on a 3 hour, 18 mile bike ride! It was my first time biking for a long distance (they said it would be to somewhere close by….) and also my first time riding a fixie! It turned out to be so much fun. We began at 9pm where we biked westwards towards the neighboring city’s downtown district. We did a lot of uphill biking to avoid the busier streets and went through a lot of beautiful neighborhoods (or at least what we could see of it in the darkness). Finally, it took us about 2 hours before we were finally there! My legs were definitely not in shape for this spontaneous trip and were wobbling when I got off my bike at our halfway point. When we hit our 9 miles at the Paseo, we decided to have Yard House happy hour food! The four of us had our yums and began our 9 mile trip back home at 12am. Coming back was so much fun! We took Colorado Blvd. all the way back, biking freely on the street with few cars in sight and racing each other just for fun. We finally called it a night when we got back home at 1am. Although I almost wasn’t able to get up this morning at 7am for my internship, it was definitely worth it! Now I’ll have about a week’s worth of memories while my leg muscles ache and the pain in my buttocks slowly goes away. Can’t wait to share more of my summer adventures! Buhbyes for now!

Warm Regards,

-Felicia
